chloe and theo
this one's an oldie but a goodie, produced at the molecule on the 11th floor of the duart building. chloe and theo is a film about an inuit man who travels to america to raise awareness about how global warming is destroying communities in the far north. he comes bearing an old inuit prophecy that one day the "men of the south" would block out the sun, angering it. the sun would then come down to kiss the earth, and in doing so, destroy all life.
we were handed this prophecy in the script and given full creative freedom to animate it, a rare opportunity indeed. We teamed up with our friend and atlanta staple nick "turbo" benson to conceptualize the characters and setting, and build the storyboard.
once we'd settled on our concepts, we played with a lot of ink and straws to create the building blocks of the final elements to be cobbled together and animated.
the men of the south and their buildings were designed to evoke a feeling of all-consuming dread and unstoppable industry, and so manifested as ravenous tar-and-soot factories on legs, eating up the landscape and growing shambling skyscrapers like weeds. we love the way they turned out.
the inuits, while tranquil and connected to the environment in the beginning of the piece, find themselves running from the raging sun in a futile attempt to seek shelter as the world melts around them.
